The A12 highway is a road of national importance and connects Rīga to the Russian border, therefore the project envisaged the construction of a new bridge over the Malmute without disrupting vehicle traffic. A temporary bypass was built alongside the existing bridge, while a 20 m long temporary prefabricated bridge of the type widely used in Sweden was installed, being designed to carry loads of up to 80 tonnes. Since the temporary bypass did not exceed a length of 100m and good visibility was ensured, priority signs were installed instead of traffic lights, making it possible to achieve continual traffic flow at the same time as the works planned under the auspices of the project were being carried out.
